Tip 1

The average time spent looking at a CV is only

5 to 7 seconds.

So make sure it is clear to read, use headings and bullet points.

Tip 2

Spelling or grammar mistakes on your CV can demonstrate poor attention to detail.

Ask a friend or family member to proof read it for you.

Tip 3

68% of employers will find you on LinkedIn, so make sure your career history matches up with your CV.

Tip 4

If you have gaps in your career history, be sure to explain what you did in that period on your CV.

You will probably be asked about it in your interview.

Tip 5

Tailor your CV - it's perfectly acceptable to keep a generic copy of your CV for your own records, but if you're applying for a job it should be tailored to the role, this will show employers that you're a great match.

Tip 6

No need to include a photo, your age, date of birth or marital status.

But do include qualifications, projects and achievements including soft skills as a well as technical skills.

Tip 7

A personal profile, also known as a personal statement, career objective and professional profile, is one of the most important aspects of your CV.

It should be a short paragraph that sits just underneath your name and contact details.

Tip 8

The standard length of a CV in the UK  is two pages. However one size does not fit all so for some professionals, one or three pages may be more appropriate.
